In Loving Memory of
Frances Hill McKay
March 31, 1933 - December 27, 2023
Frances Hill McKay, 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the early morning hours of Wednesday Dec. 27, 2023. She is buried in the church cemetery next to her beloved husband, Gerald McKay. Frances was born in Timmonsville, SC, the daughter of the late Walter E. Hill and Maude Stricklen. For as long as she could remember, she wanted to be a nurse. She often told her children the story of how, when she was a schoolgirl, she heard kids screaming on the school playground and realized a boy had a big cut below his knee. She watched as the teachers took care of him; in fact, she followed them and looked on with wonder as they wrapped his leg. She wanted to help him. Little did she know that one day that boy would be her husband and she would be his helpmate for 62 years.
And she did become a registered nurse working at different hospitals, public health departments, and in home health care. But far more important than her work as a nurse was her work at home, first as a loving wife to her pastor husband, and then when God blessed her with four children, a devoted mother to them. She poured her life into them. Together with her husband, they led their children to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. This was the most important work she ever did. Surviving are those four children, Tony (Candace) McKay, Hope (Steve) Crowell, Audrey (Carl) Broggi, and Trent (Deborah) McKay; 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings: Frankie O’Neal, Helen Goss, Willis (Mildred) Hill, Mable Jane (Meredith) Watson, Faye (Albert) Nissen, Nelva (Jerry) Evans and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much. We would be remiss without thanking and expressing our love to all of Mama's friends and family, who loved her so well in her final years. And especially we are so very grateful for the staff at Bethea Baptist Retirement Home who loved her and cared for her as family.
We are so grateful for the friends we have made whom we otherwise would have never known. God is so kind and generous and good to all. Memorials may be made to the Connie Maxwell Children's Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648-1178 You are invited to sign the guestbook at www.laytonandersonfh.com
